Awards ... Past and Recent

Competitions keep me focused and aware of the latest trends and styles in photography today. I try to enter these provincial, national, and international competitions annually. These competitions are judged by master photographers where only the industry's outstanding images are judged, demonstrating the maker's ability to make outstanding images for their clientele.

Within Canada, accepted images into the Salon, as these competitions are often referred to as, earns the maker merits toward several designations offered to Professional Photographers of Canada members, including the prestigious Craftsman of Photographic Arts and Master of Photographic Arts.

I am humbled to have the Lifetime Professional Photographers Association of BC (PPOC-BC) Fellowship Award bestowed upon me for service to our profession, and am decorated with FOUR BARS of my Master of Photographic Arts designation from the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC).

World Photographic Cup 2020

International Recognition

I was honoured to be a part of TEAM CANADA 2020 with this image, "Magnificent Two", which was selected to represent Canada in the Nature Category of the World Photographic Cup competition.

Canada's submission represented the finest photographic images and the strength of the visual poetry of Canadian photographers.

International Black & White Spider Awards

International Awards

I was thrilled to receive Second Place with a MERIT OF EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE with this submission, entitled "Ascending", in 2019.

Judged by the most respected names in photography internationally, a total of 6,418 entries were received from 73 countries.

I also received Nominee recognition in the Wildlife Category for an image of two Icelandic horses, entitled "Magnificent Two." This image went on to represent Team Canada in the World Photographic World Cup in 2020.

National Awards

The image shown here, "Un Amore, La Famiglia", won the prestigious BEST IN GROUP PORTRAIT CLASS at the Professional Photographers of Canada's 2017 annual competition; a national exhibition celebrating the best of Canadian professional photography. It was also selected for inclusion in the Professional Photographers of Canada's 2017 LOAN COLLECTION.

Since 1990, I have been humbled with numerous top honours in categories Child Portrait, Portrait, Pictorial, Architecture, and Wedding Portrait.

Provincial Awards

This image, titled "Finishing Touches", was given an EXCELLENT score and took home the trophy for BEST IN PORTRAIT OF 1-2 PERSONS CLASS at the 2007 provincial Photographers Association of Canada - British Columbia Salon Awards Competition.

Over the years, I have been recognized in British Columbia's annuall competition with Best Portrait of a Child, Best Portrait of a Group, Best Pictorial, Best Architecture, and most recently, Best Wedding Portrait of 1-2 Persons in 2016.

Wedding Awards

The image, "You Complete Me", was awarded the trophy for BEST IN WEDDING PORTRAIT CLASS in 2016 at the Professional Photographers of Canada - BC's Image Salon competition.

It was a privilege to be flown down to Bodega Bay (north of San Francisco) for this wedding. I have photographed weddings as far away as Guatemala.

Wedding and Portrait Photography International (WPPI)

International Awards

Created in 1994, this image still stands the test of time. It scored SECOND PLACE on the international stage in the Engagement Portrait Category of WPPI. Those were days my wife and I photographed weddings almost every weekend.

Featured here is Gary and Tanya Valk's engagement session at Stanley Park's Third Beach. Gary played hockey in the NHL and had a stint with the Vancouver Canucks late in his career.

Gary and Tanya's wedding also netted us SECOND PLACE AWARD in the Bridal Party Portrait Category that same year.
